The story of Meals to the Field began early in my childhood. My uncle Lyle had a family cattle farm, and I spent countless hours there with my dad riding along cutting alfalfa, plowing fields, unloading silage into the silos, and later riding in the combine harvesting corn.

Over the years, my cousin Joel and his son Jay took over the farm. The tractors were upgraded, the cattle transitioned to row crops, and the silos were replaced with grain bins.  But one thing never changed was the need for support during long days in the field.  My dad still drives the grain trucks, and I eventually moved from riding along to driving the tractor myself.

That’s where I learned firsthand how important it is to provide meals to farmers and their support teams.  During one fall day, I packed my cooler with food, but eventually ran out. Later into the evening, the cooler was empty and I was hungry without any way to get a meal or have one brought to me.  I continued working to keep on schedule ensuring the field was completed.

 

That moment stayed with me. It showed me a simple truth, farmers often work through long and demanding hours without access to a real meal. 

 

That’s where the idea for Meals to the Field was born, bringing a meal directly to farmers in their fields so they can continue their work with minimal disruption and the nourishment they need.
